Road to Glory: NJPW Heats Up Korakuen Hall on Night Three of Sakura Genesis Tour

The cherry blossoms may not be in full bloom yet, but the action in the squared circle is certainly heating up in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Night three of the Road to Sakura Genesis tour rolled into Korakuen Hall on April 3rd, delivering a night of tag team battles, intense rivalries, and a glimpse into what’s to come at the upcoming Sakura Genesis PPV.

With the main event of Sakura Genesis already set – Kazuchika Okada defending the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Zack Sabre Jr. – the Road tour serves as a crucial platform for building momentum and settling scores. Let’s dive into the heart of the action and dissect the key moments from this electrifying night in Tokyo.

Young Guns Light Up the Opener

The evening kicked off with a fast-paced tag team encounter featuring rising stars Katsuya Murashima and Shoma Kato battling the seasoned duo of Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL. This match served as a showcase for the young lions, with Murashima and Kato displaying impressive teamwork and a hunger to prove themselves. While the veterans brought their usual cunning and experience, the sheer determination of the young guns shone through. In the end, Murashima picked up the decisive pinfall victory, sending a strong message to the entire NJPW roster.

Chaos Reigns Supreme in Ten-Man Tag Team Mayhem

The second match on the card saw a chaotic ten-man tag team encounter erupt in the ring. On one side stood the unpredictable team of Boltin Oleg, Ryusuke Taguchi, Tiger Mask, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, and Toru Yano. Their opponents? The formidable alliance of TAKA Michinoku, DOUKI, Yuya Uemura, Taichi, and SANADA. This match was pure NJPW entertainment, a blend of high-flying maneuvers, technical exchanges, and signature comedy spots from Yano.

Uemura, a member of the Bullet Club’s “Just Five Guys” stable, stood out amongst the veterans. He showcased his impressive power and agility, managing to pin the legendary Tiger Mask after a well-executed moonsault. While Chaos emerged victorious on this occasion, the war between these two factions is far from over.

Desperado and YOSHI-HASHI Fall Short Against Bullet Club

The rivalry between Suzuki-gun and Bullet Club continued to simmer as El Desperado and YOSHI-HASHI teamed up to take on Taiji Ishimori and Chase Owens. This match was a clash of styles, with Desperado’s innovative offense meeting Ishimori’s technical brilliance. YOSHI-HASHI brought his signature fighting spirit to the equation, battling Owens with relentless determination.

However, the cunning tactics of Bullet Club proved too much to overcome. Owens used a sly distraction to give Ishimori the upper hand, allowing the Bone Soldier to secure the pin on Desperado with a low blow followed by a roll-up. This underhanded victory only intensifies the animosity between these two factions, and we can expect a thrilling conclusion to their feud in the near future.

International Dream Team Takes Down Bullet Club

The fourth match of the night offered a unique international flavor. The team of Kevin Knight, KUSHIDA, and Tomohiro Ishii collided with the Bullet Club trio of Francesco Akira, TJP, and Callum Newman. This match showcased a blend of hard-hitting strikes from Ishii, the innovative offense of KUSHIDA, and Knight’s impressive power.

The Bullet Club, known for their scheming tactics, attempted to gain the upper hand through distractions and illegal maneuvers. However, the international team displayed impressive cohesion, countering Bullet Club’s attempts at cheating and fighting back with a flurry of high-octane offense. In the end, Knight delivered a thunderous Spike DDT to Gedo, Bullet Club’s devious manager, securing the victory for his team. This win sends a message to Bullet Club that they won’t have it easy on the Road to Sakura Genesis.

The Dragon Unleashes His Fury

One of the most anticipated matches of the night saw the “Dragon” Shingo Takagi go head-to-head with the ever-devious Yoshinobu Kanemaru. This was a clash of titans, with Takagi’s raw power pitted against Kanemaru’s cunning technical skills. The match was a back-and-forth affair, with Takagi unleashing a series of brutal strikes and Kanemaru utilizing his trademark submissions and underhanded tactics.

The action spilled outside the ring, with both competitors trading blows with reckless abandon. However, Takagi’s relentless fighting spirit proved too much for Kanemaru. The Dragon roared back with a flurry of strikes, culminating in a thunderous Pumping Bomber that left Kanemaru motionless for the three-count
