DID YOU ENJOY WWE SMACKDOWN ON SEPTEMBER 22ND 2023?

Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn

September 23, 2023

I’ve been begging for 13 weeks for Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn to return to my television screen. I’ve been wanting them to be the culprits to the women’s tag title curse. My dreams have come true, highlight of Smackdown for me. I assume they’ll get another vignette next week then start reassurting themselves into things. Sorry to Chelsea and Piper, but put the women’s tag titles on Alba and Isla ASAP and stop with the thrown together teams like Zoey and Shayna and put focus on the witches, KC2, and The Way. Use the people who barely get TV time and put them in teams with story arcs to establish them as legit teams. It’s been years, let’s finally get a good tag division going.

Asuka vs Iyo was a good match. Fsr Charlotte walking out made me think she was hyped for it and wanted to see it up close lol. Dakota bringing back her NXT hair is nice, she needs to go to the cotton candy/dusty classic 2 hair though. Anyways about the match itself, that powerbomb was a bit weird but mostly everything else was good. Iyo doing two springboard dropkicks was nice as I love the move. I liked the crossface into the Asuka Lock, and the struggle to keep it in, it felt intense. That ref was blocking Iyo’s path to the rope, what a bitch, Bayley was justified to help! The ending was shocking in that Iyo actually won by pin or submission.

Charlotte vs Bayley is next week which… sorry Bayley, you’re losing again! Speaking of Bayley, the storyline with Shotzi didn’t get any development… sorry this is so inconsistent, Shotzi doesn’t appear half the time and it hasn’t really advanced since Shotzi redebuted which is unfortunate because I thought it had potential. Hopefully things heat up and it ends in a No DQ match or something.

Iyo’s title reign just feels like the defenses set up are good ideas but the builds aren’t good at all. Zelina beat Iyo twice before Summerslam, but she didn’t do anything for the following two weeks and the title match was announced on Twitter as opposed to having her bring this up on TV and build the story up more. With Asuka, Iyo attacked her after Summerslam, but then Asuka disappeared for weeks until returning to challenge Iyo. Iyo then didn’t show up the following week and we have a title match with a total of two weeks of interaction when it’s been six or so since Summerslam. The match itself was good don’t get me wrong, but after this match being teased for over a year, what we got for the title match build was not cutting it and having it in the middle of a random Smackdown was just eh. I assume Charlotte vs Iyo is happening at either Fastlane or Crown Jewel which should be good if they wrestle faster than they did on their last Smackdown match.

I’m thinking next week could be good for the women’s division. Iyo vs Charlotte or Asuka in a rematch could be set up, Bayley vs Charlotte should be good, Bayley vs Shotzi could continue, Alba and Isla likely will continue to explain the hex they put on the women’s tag division. I’m optimistic.

Ethan

The last 20 minutes of the show would have made me upset

September 23, 2023

if i had paid to be there live. Hopefully they get some good dark matches to send them home happy.

Main event contract signings combined with backstage shenanigans they watch on a screen. None of that looked like quality entertainment for the live crowd.

Noah

Worst book end of the year for Smackdown.

September 23, 2023

What was that? how did they have so much time left and nothing to really do in it? what the whole thing was essentially over at 9:52et and they just found a way to burn clock to get to acceptable show close time.

Kyle

LA Knight’s segment with Paul Heyman

September 23, 2023

I think them pulling LA Knight’s segment with Paul Heyman means hes most definitely gonna be Cena’s tag partner now that AJ is taken out. Them taking out Cena is to show he needs someone to team with him and they already teased Solo and Paul have a LA Knight problem last week. I’m positive we’ll get that reveal next week.

Peter

You people can’t complain Jimmy

September 23, 2023

You people can’t complain Jimmy has been looking weak and then bitch when they book him to look strong. Wtf. This was clearly to establish Jimmy back up again so that next week we can get LA Knight as Cena’s new partner. Remember at Payback Knight didn’t really want the Cena endorsement. I assume Cena is gonna have to go to him instead to request to be his partner

Douglas

Give that genius in creative a raise now.

September 23, 2023

“Hey you notice how everyone who wins the women’s tag titles gets injured or quits the company?”

“Yeah?”

“Why don’t we just say the Scottish Witches cursed the titles”

Zachary

Asuka via Pinfall.

September 23, 2023

Pleasantly surprised that IYO retained against Asuka via Pinfall. Not that I expected a title change but I thought it would end in DQ. IYO and Asuka had a good match.

Henry

I don’t mind the ending of the Show

September 23, 2023

Sometimes you just gotta piss people off, leave them wanting more and get the heat.

I know this has gone.way too long, but its what they got and you can’t have the Bloodline getting embarrassed every week.

Nathan

Jimmy trying to take over the Bloodline

September 23, 2023

Is the Bloodline story supposed to be Jimmy trying to take over the Bloodline from the inside?

If I’m fantasy booking, I could see that. Maybe leading to Jimmy finally getting Solo to turn on Roman, then when Roman gets dethroned by Cody, we can get Uso vs. Uso for the title of “Tribal Chief”.

Adam

Johnny Gargano

September 23, 2023

Can’t believe Johnny Gargano didn’t come out to save Cena

Jose

Asuka and Iyo

September 23, 2023

Asuka and Iyo was the type of match you wish women got to do every week on TV in the west. Brilliant stuff that we badly need at a proper event.

Not mad at Jimmy standing tall for once. Still need Roman for the Bloodline to feel truly serious, or sensical, but Jimmy being built up slowly is necessary

Olivia

Jimmy turn has been mess to say

September 23, 2023

Hey look the Jimmy turn has been mess to say the very least but one thing I’ll give them is they’re clearly characterizing him. He’s delusional, impulsive Solo and Heyman clearly think he’s a clown and they’re using him he’s getting the development Jey did back in 2020. The biggest issue is him wanting back into the bloodline I can’t think of any possible he’d want back in and or what gain he gets out of it.

Aaron

Jimmy and both him and Solo

September 23, 2023

You can tell something definitely went wrong there. The ref kept going to talk to Jimmy and both him and Solo was just making stuff up for like the last 5 minutes.

Tyler

The Rock can show up at any moment

September 23, 2023

I mean, I’m not surprised people are gonna now feel like The Rock can show up at any moment…especially with him teasing “Rock vs Roman” on the Pat McAfee show and also the Hollywood strike…

Was it worth the ratings / publicity? Absolutely. But now wrestling fans were given an inch but wanna take the full yard.

Jerry

Ridge really looked good tonight too.

September 23, 2023

Glad Iyo and Asuka got a lot of time. They didn’t disappoint.

Dennis

That ending felt really weird.

September 23, 2023

It went on too long, and it made it seem like they were stalling (which it sounds like they were according to SRS). In kayfabe, it’s very odd that John Cena wouldn’t have a single person backstage to come out to help him there lol

Jack

Jimmy is taking charge

September 23, 2023

I will say, I did like the element that Jimmy is taking charge when Roman isn’t around. If they’re not dumb, they’re run with Jimmy trying to usurp Roman route…

Raymond

zealous Jimmy

September 23, 2023

I kind of like the over zealous Jimmy. Dude has all but lost his damn mind lol

Frank

Watching SD since the Uso split

September 23, 2023

The more I’ve been watching SD since the Uso split the more I’ve been realising, Bloodline isn’t really a sum of its parts – it’s almost all Roman. Absolutely carried by him. They desperately need him now more than ever.

Patrick

Roman to break Ric Flair’s record

September 23, 2023

Please tell me The Bloodline story ends with John Cena beating Roman to break Ric Flair’s record. Like, at this point, fuck it. Right?

Alexander

Aj Styles back before fastlane

September 23, 2023

Man really hope they bring Aj Styles back before fastlane. Really should of been Cena and Aj Styles at Fastlane. I’m just mad Aj misses another ppv. And than he faces Roman at Saudi. Like would let it make sense have him win the tag match at Fastlane and than Roman comes back wanting to face Aj. Where is Aj gonna get his momentum this is what’d Wrong with most of his feuds. Came back a month later after Taker feud being buried Alive for Money in the Bank. And the entire Edge feud he got his ass whooped . Aj does not feel like a eligible competitor for Reigns. The damn booking man it irritates the hell put of me.

Gregory

John Cena

September 23, 2023

See if that were a match, John Cena would have counted out at 2.

Samuel

This was a good story beat

September 23, 2023

I like the focus of making Jimmy look strong, and like he orchestrated this beat down. He still needs to turn on Roman, but this was a good story beat.

Benjamin

Weakest WWE shows of the modern era

September 23, 2023

As far as in ring star talent, this has got to be one of the weakest WWE shows of the modern era

Brandon

AJ and LA

September 23, 2023

I’d rather Roman work Fastlane somehow so we get Cena teaming with both AJ and LA.

Scott

Ikeman Jiro on Level Up

September 23, 2023

Oh man, they put Ikeman Jiro on Level Up after he was released. That’s a tough beat.

Justin

Becky vs Zoey Stark

September 23, 2023

Dark match is Becky vs Zoey Stark for the NXT Women’s title

Larry

random SmackDown episode

September 23, 2023

Iyo and Asuka put on a hell of a match, Isla + Alba are back in time for spooky season, and Pretty Deadly dropped an Olivia Rodrigo reference in a montage that also involved the slo-mo use of a shakeweight….so yeah while that ending segment was pretty muddled in my heart this was about all I could possibly want out of a random SmackDown episode

Stephen

Jimmy Uso

September 23, 2023

Wtf is even going on with Jimmy now?

Jonathan

bloodline as anyone but man

September 23, 2023

Im as big of a fan of the bloodline as anyone but man, without roman this stuff sucks

Eric

LA Knight was supposed

September 23, 2023

SRS said LA Knight was supposed to make the save at the end but had a medical situation.

Nicholas

3 Matches Smackdown

September 23, 2023

Only 3 matches? Seriously?

Gary

The crowd at the end was chanting for the Rock

September 23, 2023

I saw this elsewhere, and believe it 100%. The crowd at the end was chanting for the Rock. If LA came out, no matter how popular he is, it would have been disappointing to the crowd. Kills LA’s momentum also. As much as I wanted to see it, I think the crowd chants prevented the run in.

Jacob

Fox era is the way

September 23, 2023

One thing I absolutely won’t miss about the Fox era is the way they’d black out the whole screen any time a fan flips off a heel.

Ryan
