How much time was spent holding against the cage in that fight?! Imavov had Dolidze hurt multiple times and decided to clinch. The worst part was no shots were thrown in the clinch at all. It was literally hugging. Dolidze was clearly outclassed but imavov didn’t look like he wanted to get the finish apart from the flurry at the end of round 1. Seemingly a prime example of a fighter who trains for a decision fight. Im sure dana won’t want imavov as the main event again anytime soon. What a shame.

Anthony

There’s a couple “Road to UFC”

fights between Asian UFC hopefuls that were originally supposed to be on the aborted Shanghai card from December. I guess they don’t want to put them on a regular card for whatever reason.

Clash of Titans: Dolidze vs. Imavov Headlines Electrifying UFC Fight Night Vegas 85

Las Vegas, the city of lights, prepares to dim them just enough for the octagon’s glow to take center stage. Mark your calendars for February 3rd, 2024, because UFC Fight Night Vegas 85 is set to electrify the Apex arena with a main event worthy of a pay-per-view. In one corner stands Roman “The King” Dolidze, a seasoned veteran with granite fists and unwavering resolve. Opposing him is the young phenom, Nassourdine “Nass” Imavov, a technical wizard with the potential to shock the world. This middleweight collision promises fireworks, strategic brilliance, and a narrative destined to be etched in UFC history.

Dolidze: The Iron Curtain of Georgia

Roman Dolidze, the 35-year-old Georgian powerhouse, embodies the spirit of a warrior. With a career record of 12-2, he’s seen it all. His path is paved with victories over decorated names like Mamed Khalid and John Allan, showcasing his devastating striking and relentless wrestling pressure. Dolidze isn’t known for flash, but for pure, unadulterated grit. His punches thud with the force of a wrecking ball, and his takedowns are as inevitable as the tide. He fights with the heart of a lion and the composure of a seasoned general, making him a formidable opponent for any middleweight.

Imavov: The French Prodigy on the Rise

Nassourdine Imavov, at just 28 years old, is a rising star with a skillset that belies his age. His record of 12-4 hides a depth of talent that has fight fans buzzing. Imavov is a technical savant, weaving precise striking combinations with slick takedown attempts. His footwork is a thing of beauty, keeping him just out of range while he peppers his opponents with jabs and kicks. He’s shown the ability to finish fights with both striking and submission prowess, making him a true multi-dimensional threat.

A Tale of Two Styles: Clash of the Titans

This main event is a clash of styles, experience, and narrative. Dolidze represents the old guard, the unyielding force who thrives on pressure and chaos. Imavov embodies the new wave, the calculated technician who picks his moments with precision. The former relies on his power and wrestling to overwhelm opponents, while the latter uses his footwork and striking acumen to dictate the pace. It’s a battle between power and finesse, experience and youthful exuberance.

Key Factors to Watch:

  • Can Dolidze’s pressure crack Imavov’s composure? Dolidze thrives in close quarters, smothering his opponents with relentless takedown attempts and heavy ground-and-pound. If he can trap Imavov against the cage, the fight could turn ugly for the young Frenchman. However, Imavov’s footwork and takedown defense have improved leaps and bounds. Can he maintain his distance and avoid getting bogged down in Dolidze’s grappling world?
  • Will Imavov’s striking accuracy overcome Dolidze’s granite chin? Imavov’s striking is sharp and precise, but can it faze the iron-chinned Dolidze? Dolidze has shown remarkable resilience in the past, walking through punches that would have sent others to the canvas. If Imavov can’t find the finishing blow with his strikes, he might find himself in Dolidze’s world – a place where power reigns supreme.
  • Who will dictate the pace of the fight? This could be the deciding factor. Dolidze thrives in chaos, while Imavov prefers a measured approach. If Dolidze can turn the fight into a brawl, his experience and power might give him the edge. However, if Imavov can control the distance and dictate the pace with his footwork and jab, he could frustrate Dolidze and open up opportunities for takedowns or counterstrikes.

More Than Just a Main Event: A Card Packed with Intrigue

While the main event takes center stage, the rest of the card is no mere undercard. We have exciting prospects like Alikhan Shakirov looking to make a statement against the experienced Erick Gonzalez. In the women’s flyweight division, the always-entertaining Emily Whitmire takes on the dangerous Karol Rosa in a fight guaranteed to deliver fireworks. And let’s not forget the welterweight clash between the heavy-handed Bruno Souza and the ever-improving Daniel Rodriguez. This card is stacked with potential breakout performances and hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
