The Road to WrestleMania 41: SmackDown’s Role in Shaping the Grandest Stage of Them All

As we inch closer to WrestleMania 41, every episode of SmackDown becomes a critical piece of the puzzle. The blue brand has always been known for its athleticism, storytelling, and larger-than-life characters, and this year is no different. With less than two months to go until the Showcase of the Immortals, the stakes have never been higher.

The February 21st episode of SmackDown Live is poised to be a pivotal night in the Road to WrestleMania. Expect major developments in ongoing storylines, shocking twists, and perhaps even a surprise appearance or two. The WWE Creative Team has been working overtime to ensure that this episode sets the stage for what promises to be one of the most memorable WrestleManias in history.

Confirmed Matches and Segments: What We Know So Far

While the full card for SmackDown Live on 2/21/25 is still taking shape, several matches and segments have already been confirmed. Here’s a breakdown of what’s officially on tap for the night:

1. Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes

The Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns, will put his Universal Championship on the line against the American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes. This match has been months in the making, with Cody finally earning his shot at the title after a grueling series of victories. Roman, who has held the Universal Championship for over 1,000 days, is determined to prove why he’s the Head of the Table. But Cody, fueled by his desire to finish the story and bring the title back to the Rhodes family, is more motivated than ever. Will this be the night that Cody dethrones the longest-reigning Universal Champion in history, or will Roman Reigns continue his historic reign?

2. Women’s Championship Contender’s Match: Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley

Two of the most dominant forces in the WWE Women’s Division will collide as Bianca Belair takes on Rhea Ripley in a match to determine the #1 contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 41. Both women have been on a tear lately, and this match promises to be a hard-hitting, high-flying spectacle. With the EST of WWE’s unparalleled athleticism and Rhea’s brute strength, this is a clash of styles that could steal the show.

3. The Usos vs. The Street Profits: Tag Team Turmoil

The tag team division has never been hotter, and this match is a testament to that. The Usos, fresh off their reconciliation with Roman Reigns and the Bloodline, will face off against the high-flying Street Profits. Both teams are known for their chemistry, athleticism, and ability to put on show-stealing performances. With the Tag Team Championships potentially on the line at WrestleMania, this match could have major implications for the division.

4. LA Knight’s Open Challenge

The Megastar, LA Knight, has issued an open challenge to anyone in the locker room. Known for his charisma and in-ring prowess, LA Knight has been on a roll lately, and he’s looking to keep the momentum going. But who will step up to answer the challenge? Will it be a returning superstar, a rising star looking to make a name for themselves, or perhaps even a surprise debut? One thing’s for sure: LA Knight’s segment is always must-see TV.

5. Bray Wyatt’s Return: What Does He Have Planned?

The Eater of Worlds, Bray Wyatt, has been teasing his return to SmackDown for weeks. His cryptic messages and eerie vignettes have left the WWE Universe guessing about his intentions. Will he align himself with a current superstar, or is he planning to unleash chaos on the entire roster? Whatever Bray has in store, it’s sure to be unforgettable.

Potential Surprises and Predictions

While the confirmed matches and segments are enough to get any WWE fan excited, it’s the potential surprises that make this episode of SmackDown Live truly special. Here are a few predictions and possibilities for what could go down on 2/21/25:

1. The Rock Returns to Confront Roman Reigns

Rumors have been swirling for months about The Rock’s potential involvement in the Road to WrestleMania. With Roman Reigns at the peak of his dominance as the Tribal Chief, a confrontation with his real-life cousin, The Rock, would be a WrestleMania-worthy moment. Could The Great One make a surprise appearance on SmackDown to set the stage for a blockbuster match at WrestleMania 41?

2. A Shocking Betrayal in the Bloodline

The Bloodline has been the most dominant faction in WWE for years, but cracks have started to show. With tensions simmering between Roman Reigns, The Usos, and Solo Sikoa, could we see a shocking betrayal that fractures the group? The fallout from such a moment would have massive implications for WrestleMania.

3. A Major NXT Call-Up

WWE has a history of calling up NXT superstars to the main roster during pivotal moments. With WrestleMania season in full swing, could we see a top NXT talent make their SmackDown debut on 2/21/25? Names like Carmelo Hayes, Bron Breakker, and Roxanne Perez have been rumored for main roster moves, and this could be the perfect time to pull the trigger.

4. A WrestleMania Match Announcement

With WrestleMania 41 just around the corner, expect at least one major match to be officially announced during this episode. Whether it’s a dream match, a championship showdown, or a grudge match years in the making, the WWE Universe will be buzzing with excitement.

Very good show

March 11, 2025

I think his Ic run being so long hurt him as a credible world champion. It’s like he fought all the same guys and crushed them for a mid card belt now we are supposed to believe they are an actual challenge to him as a world champion? Lol when they took the intercontinental title off of him they should have moved him to SmackDown and put a new list of challengers in front of him. And moved Cody and the WWE championship to raw

Ezra

Very good episode,

March 11, 2025

imagine being deluded enough to think a multi billion dollar company with guys who literally have wrestling in their blood hot shoted a heel turn storyline because they booked themselves into a corner. are you serious dude? that is the most ridiculous thing i have read in a minute lol. good luck bro.

Rowan

Great episode.

March 11, 2025

Punk/Cody was there for the taking and Cena could’ve gone up against Gunther.

They knee jerked a heel turn because they booked themselves into a nepotism corner

Hudson

Very good show

March 11, 2025

honestly don’t get the hate. like sure, there’s no major story here YET. But Punk/Rollins/Reigns has a lot of potential to be a high quality match. I’m legit looking forward to it and love that these three have wound up in a match together.

Willie

Great episode.

March 11, 2025

The triple threat match between them at Wrestlemania is gonna be awesome. Super stoked for this match

Gary

Great show

March 10, 2025

Let’s mention the women’s match in every live/hate challenge. Easiest task for this group of “journalists” ever. Each one of these love/hates are more embarrassing than the last. We get it, women’s wrestling is amazing and should main event every show and if a women’s match is bad it’s because where it is on the card or the booking it’s never the talent, all the women are top tier wrestlers.

Gerald

Very good show

March 10, 2025

You wanna find out who the real simps and shills are? Mark down anybody who defends that main event match! Even the diehard AEW fans are crapping on that main event. It was terrible.

This Moxley stuff is stinking out the entire show and the dude seems to think he is Brock Lesnar.

The sad part is that this wasn’t a terrible show overall and with all things taken into an account. But at the end of the day, a bad ending can ruin a whole show for a lot of people. “Game of Thrones season 8” style.

Frank

Great show

March 10, 2025

So the crux of it all is that the PLE started strong…then ended with a sour belch.

The fans most remember how you left them and the fans are going to remember this show with a resounding “bleh”!

And any casual fan who watched with their buddies who are more diehard fans, may have left the viewing saying aloud, “That guy was pretty good. He should go to WWE”.

Evelyn

Great show.

March 10, 2025

I’ve said before but I think one of the issues here is that Tony is a massive fan of NJPW and often looks to emulate their PPV card structure. NJPW cards typically build to a climax with the big matches back to back and tend not to feature cool down matches or spots. Problem is western audiences haven’t been conditioned for that over the last 40 years, so often results in burnout. Personally I would have laid out the card like below giving breathing spaces, opening with the Steel Cage match and building to the Hollywood Ending as the main event.

Storm vs. May

Mox vs. Cope

Hangman vs. MJF

Hurt Syndicate vs. Outrunners

Takeshita vs. Omega

Swerve vs. Ricochet

Okada vs. King

Mone vs. Watanabe

Ospreay vs. Fletcher

Willie

Great episode.

March 10, 2025

Very good show, but the ending is what people remember. WWE ended Elimination Chamber with a huge heel turn. AEW ended Revolution with that abominable ending.

it doesn’t totally undo a great show, but it might have done more harm than good.

Christian

Very good show

March 10, 2025

I can already see Trips the mark statues, Trips the mark with a 20 minutes speech, the camera focusing onTrips the mark every 30 seconds when he is on the crowd.

Oliver

Great show.

March 10, 2025

I’m glad they are bringing it back to a nice venue. The idea of hosting it immediately after Smackdown is insane. Why not put a highlight show or broadcast the Hall of Fame instead of airing Smackdown that week.

Noah
