The Road to WrestleMania: SmackDown’s Final Stand
WrestleMania season is always a special time in the WWE calendar, and SmackDown has been at the forefront of the action. With just weeks to go before the biggest event of the year, the blue brand is pulling out all the stops to ensure that every storyline, every rivalry, and every championship picture is as compelling as possible.
The March 28 episode of SmackDown is the final opportunity for Superstars to make their case for a spot on the WrestleMania card. Expect last-minute twists, heated confrontations, and perhaps even a surprise return or two. The tension is palpable, and the WWE Universe is in for a night they won’t soon forget.
Confirmed Matches and Segments
While the full card for SmackDown Live on March 28, 2025, is still taking shape, several matches and segments have already been confirmed. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in store:
1. Universal Championship Contract Signing: Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes
The Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns, has been the undisputed face of WWE for years, but his reign as Universal Champion is facing its toughest challenge yet. Cody Rhodes, the American Nightmare, has vowed to finish the story and dethrone Reigns at WrestleMania 41.
The contract signing for their highly anticipated match will take place on this episode of SmackDown. Contract signings in WWE are rarely peaceful affairs, and with the history between these two men, things are bound to get explosive. Will Reigns and Rhodes come to blows? Or will there be a surprise twist that changes the landscape of their WrestleMania showdown?
2. Women’s Championship Match: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley
Bianca Belair has been a dominant force as the SmackDown Women’s Champion, but her rivalry with Bayley has reached new heights. The Role Model is determined to reclaim the title she once held, and this match on SmackDown could be her last chance to gain momentum heading into WrestleMania.
Both women are known for their incredible in-ring ability and storytelling, so this match is sure to be a show-stealer. Will Bianca continue her reign of dominance, or will Bayley prove that she’s still one of the best in the business?
3. Intercontinental Championship Open Challenge: Gunther (c) vs. TBD
Gunther, the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history, has issued an open challenge for his title on SmackDown. The Ring General has been unstoppable, but with WrestleMania on the horizon, there’s no shortage of Superstars looking to make a name for themselves by taking down the dominant champion.
Who will step up to answer the challenge? Will it be a rising star looking to make a statement, or a veteran aiming for one last shot at glory? One thing’s for sure: Gunther’s opponent will have their work cut out for them.
4. The Usos vs. The Street Profits
The tag team division on SmackDown has been on fire, and this match between The Usos and The Street Profits is sure to be a highlight of the night. Both teams are known for their high-flying, hard-hitting styles, and this bout could have major implications for the tag team title picture at WrestleMania.
With Montez Ford’s athleticism, Angelo Dawkins’ power, and The Usos’ unmatched chemistry, this match has all the ingredients to be a classic. Will The Usos prove why they’re one of the greatest tag teams of all time, or will The Street Profits secure a crucial victory?
5. LA Knight’s WrestleMania Showcase
LA Knight has become one of the most popular Superstars on the SmackDown roster, and he’s set to have a major role at WrestleMania 41. On this episode of SmackDown, Knight will address the WWE Universe and reveal his plans for the Grandest Stage of Them All.
With his charisma and mic skills, Knight’s segment is sure to be must-see TV. Will he call out a specific opponent, or will he issue a challenge to anyone brave enough to step up? Whatever happens, the WWE Universe will be hanging on his every word.
What to Watch For: Key Storylines and Predictions
While the confirmed matches and segments are enough to get any fan excited, there are several other storylines and potential surprises to keep an eye on during this episode of SmackDown.
1. The Bloodline’s Next Move
The Bloodline has been a dominant force in WWE for years, but cracks have started to show in recent months. With Roman Reigns focused on Cody Rhodes and The Usos embroiled in their own battles, could we see further tension within the group?
There’s also the question of Solo Sikoa’s role. The Enforcer has been a key part of The Bloodline’s success, but could he have his own ambitions? Keep an eye on any developments involving The Bloodline, as they could have major implications for WrestleMania.
2. Surprise Returns and Debuts
WrestleMania season is always a time for surprises, and SmackDown on March 28 could be no exception. Could we see the return of a familiar face, such as Randy Orton or Bray Wyatt? Or perhaps the debut of a rising star from NXT?
The WWE Universe loves a good surprise, and with the stakes so high, anything is possible.
3. The Women’s Division Heats Up
In addition to the Women’s Championship match, the rest of the SmackDown women’s division is sure to be in action. Superstars like Charlotte Flair, Rhea Ripley, and Liv Morgan are all looking to make their mark heading into WrestleMania.
Could we see the beginning of a new rivalry, or the continuation of an existing one? The women’s division is stacked with talent, and every match is an opportunity for someone to shine.
4. The Road to WrestleMania Takes Shape
With WrestleMania 41 just weeks away, this episode of SmackDown will play a crucial role in shaping the card for the biggest event of the year. Expect major developments in multiple storylines, as Superstars look to secure their spot on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

Very good show
I think his Ic run being so long hurt him as a credible world champion. It’s like he fought all the same guys and crushed them for a mid card belt now we are supposed to believe they are an actual challenge to him as a world champion? Lol when they took the intercontinental title off of him they should have moved him to SmackDown and put a new list of challengers in front of him. And moved Cody and the WWE championship to raw
Very good episode,
imagine being deluded enough to think a multi billion dollar company with guys who literally have wrestling in their blood hot shoted a heel turn storyline because they booked themselves into a corner. are you serious dude? that is the most ridiculous thing i have read in a minute lol. good luck bro.
Great episode.
Punk/Cody was there for the taking and Cena could’ve gone up against Gunther.
They knee jerked a heel turn because they booked themselves into a nepotism corner
Very good show
honestly don’t get the hate. like sure, there’s no major story here YET. But Punk/Rollins/Reigns has a lot of potential to be a high quality match. I’m legit looking forward to it and love that these three have wound up in a match together.
Great episode.
The triple threat match between them at Wrestlemania is gonna be awesome. Super stoked for this match
Great show
Let’s mention the women’s match in every live/hate challenge. Easiest task for this group of “journalists” ever. Each one of these love/hates are more embarrassing than the last. We get it, women’s wrestling is amazing and should main event every show and if a women’s match is bad it’s because where it is on the card or the booking it’s never the talent, all the women are top tier wrestlers.
Very good show
You wanna find out who the real simps and shills are? Mark down anybody who defends that main event match! Even the diehard AEW fans are crapping on that main event. It was terrible.
This Moxley stuff is stinking out the entire show and the dude seems to think he is Brock Lesnar.
The sad part is that this wasn’t a terrible show overall and with all things taken into an account. But at the end of the day, a bad ending can ruin a whole show for a lot of people. “Game of Thrones season 8” style.
Great show
So the crux of it all is that the PLE started strong…then ended with a sour belch.
The fans most remember how you left them and the fans are going to remember this show with a resounding “bleh”!
And any casual fan who watched with their buddies who are more diehard fans, may have left the viewing saying aloud, “That guy was pretty good. He should go to WWE”.
Great show.
I’ve said before but I think one of the issues here is that Tony is a massive fan of NJPW and often looks to emulate their PPV card structure. NJPW cards typically build to a climax with the big matches back to back and tend not to feature cool down matches or spots. Problem is western audiences haven’t been conditioned for that over the last 40 years, so often results in burnout. Personally I would have laid out the card like below giving breathing spaces, opening with the Steel Cage match and building to the Hollywood Ending as the main event.
Storm vs. May
Mox vs. Cope
Hangman vs. MJF
Hurt Syndicate vs. Outrunners
Takeshita vs. Omega
Swerve vs. Ricochet
Okada vs. King
Mone vs. Watanabe
Ospreay vs. Fletcher
Great episode.
Very good show, but the ending is what people remember. WWE ended Elimination Chamber with a huge heel turn. AEW ended Revolution with that abominable ending.
it doesn’t totally undo a great show, but it might have done more harm than good.
Very good show
I can already see Trips the mark statues, Trips the mark with a 20 minutes speech, the camera focusing onTrips the mark every 30 seconds when he is on the crowd.
Great show.
I’m glad they are bringing it back to a nice venue. The idea of hosting it immediately after Smackdown is insane. Why not put a highlight show or broadcast the Hall of Fame instead of airing Smackdown that week.
best of the best
Very good show tonight
