Honestly really solid episode.
Obviously the peak was the Punk/Rollins segment but the entire show felt pretty consistently good (besides the Rhea/Maxxine match but I’ll forgive that because she’s legit really green.)
Not at all dissatisfied having watched the whole show. Really excited to see where they go with the Punk/Rollins stuff and how the rest of the locker room might play a part in it.

Rhodes vs Nakamura won’t end until a no disqualification match. Otherwise, Cody can’t overcome the mist, and prove to Shinsuke why his story will be one to reach that final chapter.

1994 Royal Rumble storyline
Yo they building to the 1994 Royal Rumble storyline, Bret’s knee was hurt and was trying to win the Rumble to fight Yoko for the title. Bret is Cody. So CM Punk is Luger. And I guess Seth is Yokozuna 🤣 that would be sick tho if they did the double finish with Cody and Punk tho, where they both went out at the same time. Ooh! If they did that, Cody could face Roman and Punk could face Seth!

I feel it would take a lot to overshadow Cody and Roman. This year’s Night One Main Event was the biggest story of that past year but Roman/Cody was still the biggest match on the card even despite all that.
Roman just has that defining aura to him, along with a modern Hogan-esque length of a run, and Cody’s the top face. Seth/Punk has the potential to be the best STORY of Mania 40 (for as much of a good story as Roman and Cody could be too) but when it comes to which match has the most epic feel to it, Roman defending his belt against the THE babyface hero is to big of a moment. If Cody takes Roman’s belt how do you follow that?

I know Seth/Punk being the Night One Main Event is just speculation, but it really does make a lot of sense, and although Rhea VS The Rumble Winner would be ideal, the WHC is the new title they’re trying to push.

He still could. Seth vs Punk is so intriguing that it doesn’t necessarily need the title. It probably will be for the title tho more than likely.

I hope Drew wins the title and defend and lost it to Sami at Wrestlemania.
Punk and Seth do not need the title they can screw each other until they face at Wrestlemania. Cody and Sami winning night 1 and 2 of Wrestlemania would be awesome.
When WWE puts on a good show,
Cleveland is a good crowd. When they used to put on 40 minute talking segments to open the show, the crowd falls asleep.
Some crowds are hot for anything and will cheer trash shows. Some crowds are dead in the best of shows. Cleveland falls in the middle, and doesn’t reward crap, but isn’t dead for good segment/show.
Bunch of thoughts from an overall good show:
Drew vs Jey was good, but I hope Jey starts winning some singles matches soon to build momentum for the Rumble. He’s done a whole lotta losing since getting drafted.
Rhea vs Maxxine was rough unfortunately. They should probably get Maxxine some more in ring time/house show matches soon to get some reps. Hope Ivy does well with Rhea.
Hoooo boy that Punk/Seth promo…. that was awesome! So much tension and some great lines from Seth. Clearly that’s the Mania N1 Main Event, it’s gonna slap for sure
JD made a huge mistake tonight: Don’t fuck with R-Truth. Next thing you know he’s gonna win the briefcase off Priest and dethrone Roman, as was prophesized.
Johnny and Miz getting a hometown moment was cool. Candice losing in a few minutes AGAIN was not.
Becky/Nia promo was decent actually. I know, I know, it’s not allowed to say something involving her was good, but Nia played her part and Bex was great on the mic as usual. I appreciate that they’re finally addressing this feud, long overdue imo. Gives them something to do before Becky vs Rhea at Mania and maybe (just my prediction) Jade debuts to beat Nia.

Shinsuke had to start doing those backstage video promos so that he wouldn’t get overpowered by Seth’s singing fans during their feud and now they’re the best most defining part of his character.
His promos have become formulaic since he left.
If live murder you mean insert multiple “wink wink nudge nudge nostalgia references” and then flubs 2-3 lines then loses all rhythm in his promo and then stares at Rollins for a moment or two.

Punk is going to commit a live murder the next time he steps in the ring with Seth on the mic and I’m gonna have a front row seat to it.
Especially on Raw
This was my fear once Randy and Punk turned back up. My hope is that once things have settled down a bit, that we can manoeuvre back to having multiple women and longer matches. And those weeks were highly rated too. .
Ivy’s most likely a one-and-done TV match if anything.
How they build the women’s Rumble over these next few weeks will be the interesting thing as far as considering the division as a whole goes. (We also don’t know if SD plans are changed until we learn how long Charlotte’s out.)
While I appreciated Chelsea on commentary,
that match only going two minutes and Indi (who Becky had given some shine to) and Candice looking like geeks was frustrating.
If you’re going to do what’s effectively a squash in Rhea/Maxxine, the other match on a three hour show deserves better than that.
WWE feels very much on the cusp
WWE feels very much on the cusp of sliding back to where they were with the main roster women’s division before the month or so before Survivor Series.
Rhea’s got few real prospects lined up (Ivy isn’t ready for a substantial feud) and seems set to be focusing on the men going forward again, the matches are shortening, and Becky/Nia seems to fill the same slot that Becky/Trish did on Raw. SD is really just the one feud and same one on loop (Bianca vs Damage CTRL).

I’ve said it before, my favourite Seth Rollins is when he drops the cackling/dancing and gets real serious with it, he knows how to cut so deep.

Very good main event and it was certain that this rivalry is only beginning, I like it so far, I hope the final match between Cody and Shin has a stipulation.
To be honest, as much as I wanted Cody to win
, I do think it was necessary in the long run, because him winning the title so soon would feel pretty rushed, especially for a historic reign. Mania 39 WAS an ideal time for Roman to lose, but Cody hadn’t had a chance to genuinely chase the title which is what his “story” is centered around. A Dusty/Flair approach would be great (although Cody losing again would be a joke).
Personally, this Shinsuke feud is the only one that feels filler to me, mostly because it’s a pretty big downgrade from Brock and the Judgement Day. The Brock feud did a ton for Cody’s stardom, since it was a brutal uphill battle that both got him sympathy and made him go full superhero, and then he went to war with the hottest heel faction coming off of that. Both of those things are divorced from Roman, but still give the feeling of Cody going on a big journey through obstacles to work his way back.
Shinsuke is great, but his booking/kayfabe strength just isn’t the same as that. The strongest he’s been is his feud with Seth which he still lost. I’d still prefer this than them dragging the Judgement Day feud beyond Wargames, though.
Not having Cody win this past year
Yeah, I really think they fucked up not having Cody win this past year, He’s still good and has done some good stuff but everything since then has felt like very blatant filler.
So when he wins it’s like “why..why didn’t we just do this last year?” anyway pessimistic stuff aside, youre right. Cody’s gotta win for them to have a shot there. Fingers crossed lol.

I feel like maybe next week Rhea tries to distract the ref and Ivy stops her and ref sees Julius fighting off JD and Dom and they get dq’d and then Judgement Day gets the upper hand and try to badly injure them after and then Cody returns the favor or Alpha Academy saves them and maybe Adam Pearce uses that as a reason to relinquish Judgement Day of half the titles.

Shinsuke has adopted the Mist
It’s cool that Shinsuke has adopted the Mist. He had one of the Great Muta’s last matches, and what Shinsuke did was steal his mist, and used it on him plus a Kinshasaa for the finish. Now him using it in WWE is like cross company continuity; Shinsuke is now a more deadly opponent with the mist.
Cody needs to beat Roman at Mania
Having Cody and Punk being the final two in the RR makes the most sense to me. On one hand, you’ve got two of the biggest babyfaces on the roster going at it, and whoever loses will still be able to take on the champ of their respective brand.
