Trick Williams Shocks Sami Zayn, Captures United States Title on WrestleMania 42’s Second Night

In a stunning upset at WrestleMania 42, Trick Williams—former NXT Champion—secured his first major main-roster title by defeating Sami Zayn for the WWE United States Championship. Accompanied by rapper Lil Yachty, Williams ushered in a new “Whoop That” era in dramatic fashion.

The match kicked off with Williams charging hard at Zayn, but the seasoned champion quickly turned the tables. Zayn landed an early Blue Thunder Bomb after sidestepping Williams’ signature Trick Shot, though the pinfall attempt came too soon.

Williams managed to reach the ropes, where Lil Yachty offered encouragement—only for Zayn to storm outside, take out the rapper, and slam him into the barricade. Zayn then refocused on Williams, driving him into the ring post and delivering a brutal Brainbuster on the apron.

A massive boot from Zayn sent Williams staggering against the barricade. Zayn slid back into the ring, seemingly content to win by count-out, but Williams dove in just before the referee’s ten-count.

Zayn set up for the Helluva Kick, but Lil Yachty grabbed his foot on the top rope, giving Williams an opening. Williams connected with a cyclone kick, yet Zayn kicked out. The champion nearly stole the win with a rollup and followed with an exploder into the corner. In the end, though, Williams hit the Trick Shot for the three-count.

After the bell, Williams celebrated with Lil Yachty and his family at ringside, while a devastated Zayn looked on from the floor.
